A Note on Methods Used for Deception Analysis and Influence of Thinking Stimulus in Deception Detection
نویسندگان
چکیده
Lie or deception analysis is a significant challenge for investigators especially in crime cases. Identifying liar from normal human behaviour has higher relevance with external behaviour and cognitive functionality of human brain. Methods such as polygraph, cognitive polygraph, facial electromyography, eye tracking, voice stress analysis and functional magnetic resonance imaging have been already developed for deception analysis. Even these methods has its own merits, all these methods faces a common issue of accuracy in deception detection ratio due to different kind of liars and learned criminals. Thinking is an internal stimulus having relationship with deception. Identifying thinking responses from brain is one of the measures used to detect deception. Electroencephalography is another modality to understand cognitive responses such as thinking from human brain and this method can be extended to detect liar from other people. Statistical features such as Power, Variance and Root Mean Square (RMS) have been calculated for normal and thinking patterns of EEG signal. Primary objective of this paper is to focus various methods used for lie/deception analysis. This paper also explains influence of statistical features to discriminate thinking patterns from normal signal. Keyword-Lie detector, deception, EEG, thinking stimulus

Invoking the Feigner in Us Methodological Approaches for Investigating Deception in fMRI Setting
The attempt to find out if someone is telling a lie has been of human's interest. One of the techniques which is believed to be efficient in future is fMRI (functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging), using which the changes of regional blood flow during the designed paradigm can be recorded. This method has been considered as a better technique for studying lie and deception. For investigating th...
متن کاملLiterature review for Deception detection
Deception is a very common phenomenon, especially human communication, and people have been interested in how to accurately detect deception for much of human history. In recent years, detecting deception has became a huge point of interest for many different fields of research, such as business, jurisprudence, law enforcement, and national security. Deception and its detection is a complicated...
متن کاملSingle-trial lie detection using a combined fNIRS-polygraph system
Deception is a human behavior that many people experience in daily life. It involves complex neuronal activities in addition to several physiological changes in the body. A polygraph, which can measure some of the physiological responses from the body, has been widely employed in lie-detection. Many researchers, however, believe that lie detection can become more precise if the neuronal changes...
متن کاملDeception Detection on the Internet
This chapter provides an overview of techniques and tools to detect deception on the Internet. A classification of state-of-the-art hypothesis testing and data mining based deception detection methods are presented. A psycho-linguistics based statistical model for deception detection is also described in detail. Passive and active methods for detecting deception at the application and network l...
متن کاملDeception detection in Russian texts
Psychology studies show that people detect deception no more accurately than by chance, and it is therefore important to develop tools to enable the detection of deception. The problem of deception detection has been studied for a significant amount of time, however in the last 1015 years we have seen methods of computational linguistics being employed with greater frequency. Texts are processe...
